Stefanos Xenofontos
Stefanos specialises in the field of public international law, in particular human rights law. He completed his doctoral research at the University of Birmingham, where he successfully defended his PhD thesis on the effectiveness and long-term future of the European Court of Human Rights.
Before joining Pieters Cariolou LLC, Stefanos completed his legal traineeship at the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus (Human Rights Department), where he had the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the handling of various cases before the European Court of Human Rights, often raising complex and novel legal issues.
Previously, he undertook a Blue Book traineeship at the European Commission, in Brussels, and an internship at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. He has also held the position of Secretary-General at the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) UK. During his doctoral studies, Stefanos presented his research papers at various national and international conferences. He also held the position of Teaching Associate at Birmingham Law School, where he taught academic seminars in the Law undergraduate programmes.
